Introduction to the project
The project began with the aim of satisfying the requirement of the textile manufacturing industry to develop new types of clothes and strategies for reducing energy consumption and minimizing the environmental impact, producing in the meanwhile a new category of smart textiles. TexEMFiRe proposes the development and the research of new textile materials with enhanced electromagnetic shielding (EMS) and fire retardant (FR) properties, through eco-friendly methods based on low-pressure plasma to develop a new clothes category. The project synergically combines plasma properties and material technology, bringing closely together universities, research institutes, SMEs and accredited laboratories in Romania and Italy.
Objectives of the project
The specific objectives of the international project TexEMFiRe:
- Development and implementation of innovative textile materials provided with a barrier of metallic and insulating layers.
- Deepening the study of electromagnetic shielding and of fireproof properties in order to enhance its performance.
- Optimizing the processes related to plasma and material properties in order to ensure reduced operation costs.
- Providing business plans based on the LCA method for industrial use in the textile manufacturing.
Tecnolab’s role in the project
This project involves the participation of a European team of researchers in various fields. Tecnolab has participated in all phases of the development and has studied, analyzed and implemented a measurement chain in accordance with European standards, for the measurement of the reduction of electromagnetic waves thanks to textiles in various materials.
