Introduction to vibration tests

During their lifecycle, many products are subjected to a wide range of mechanical stress, as vibration, drops and hits due to, among others, careless handling, transport, operating conditions in vibrating environments. Such phenomena, in addition to be frequent and dangerous, can cause an immediate failure of the components or cause latent damages which become visible just after a continuing use, reducing the products’ life.

The environmental vibration test consists of a precise and repeatable simulation of operating conditions of the sample in his real application environment, in order to define the dynamic behaviour of the sample and identify any mechanical weakness or degradation compared with the specified performances.

The proofing profiles derive from specific guidelines or from profiles the Customer wants to carry out and, in general, they include following information:

  • Vibration tests to carry out (sine, random, shock, …)
  • Vibration amplitude (accelerations, traverse speed, …)
  • Frequency fields within the test should take place
  • Whether or not carrying out the test on one or more axles
  • Whether or not carrying out the vibration test combined with thermal cycles
  • Whether or not carrying out vibration analysis during the tests (FFT, resonance search, …)

Depending on the requested test specification, Tecnolab del Lago Maggiore Srl can carry out:

  • SINUSOIDAL TEST

Railway application:

  • Reference standard: CEI EN 61373: 2000
    Test type: random + shock
    Maximum frequency range: 5 ÷ 150 Hz
    Duration per axle: 30 minutes + 5 hours + 3 shocks per direction
    The test levels depend on the sample position on the trolley
